July 30, 2011 was a very special day for the Consolata Missionaries in Kenya. The day marked the priestly ordination of one of our confreres at Makima Parish. The celebration was so colorful and well organized by the Confreres, Consolata Sisters and parishioners. The Holy Mass started at 10:38 am and finished around 15:23 p.m.
The Holy Mass was presided over by His Lordship Paul Kariuki, Bishop of Embu and concelebrated by some of us such as Frs. Franco Cellana, Tobias de Oliveira, John Muragu, Kizito Mukalazi, Mkado Onyango Daniel, Ssemwezi Peter Muwangi, Kibirango Davie Deogratias, Schiavinato Pietro, Simon Tshiani, Albert Kathare, Charles Gachingiri, Otieno, Jean-Marie Bilwala-Kabesa and other priests from different dioceses, included 4 deacons of Embu Diocese. We also noticed a huge number of people from Ouganda (Ciwanga Center and Kapeeka Parish). In his homily the Bishop Paul Kariuki gave instructions to the new ordained on how to be a good priest. It was really helpful even for all of us who are already priests of some years. The Bishop Paul Kariuki could not finish his sermon without praising the Lord for the wonderful missionary work that the Consolata Fathers and Sisters are accomplishing in his Diocese, particularly in Makima Parish. “Great and humble Bishop Paul Kariuki” said one of our Confreres. After the Holy Mass, we continued with the exercise of the use of the folk and plate; which is simply to say it was the time of lunch. For us “Men of Ugali” we always like shortcut and we preferred to use our own hands to enjoy our Ugali with meat of beef and “sukumawiki”. It was absolutely wonderful. My Dear readers, Makima Parish is situated in Embu Diocese at 175 km from Nairobi (the Capital City). The climate is semi-arid and as soon as I arrived there I found some similarities with the Southern part of Ethiopia. Makima Parish has got a population of 26 000 and according to the parish priest, Fr. John Muragu, 70% of the population are Christians. The parish has 18 outstations. Every Sunday there are 9 Holy Masses. The parish has St Paul as Patron Saint. Besides, there is also the outstanding community of Consolata Sisters. They are involved in direct apostolate and in the pastoral of sick and orphans. It was so easy to notice the contribution of Consolata Sisters during the ordination Celebration. They are very good at contributing to the successful of missionary work in Makima Parish. The Consolata Fathers are two, plus one seminarian for the pastoral experience; and the Sisters are 4. At the beginning of this year 2011 the Parishioners included our Confreres & Consorelle of Makima Parish celebrated the 25 years of the existence of the Parish. To go back to the above-mentioned new blessing of the IMC Kenyan region, the Confrere is called Stephen Mutuku. As recall, Fr. Stephen Mutuku is the son of Mr. Michael Musembi and the late Madam Teresiah Kanini. He received sacrament of baptism and Holy Communion on 31/05/1992. On 17/07/1994 he received the sacrament of Confirmation. In 1998 Stephen Mutuku began his primary education at Kitololoni Primary School where he was later transferred to Nzukini Primary School in the year 1995. He sat for KCPE in 1996 at Kitololoni Primary School. He joined from one in Mbondoni Secondary School in 1997 and sat for KSCE in 2000 in the same School. During his secondary education he started communicating with vocation director of Consolata Missionaries – Nairobi. He later joined Consolata Seminary – Nairobi from 2001 - 2005 and pursued a Diploma in religious studies and a degree in philosophy at the Consolata Institute of Philosophy. On 16/07/2006 Stephen Mutuku did his first religious profession Consolata Novitiate at Sagana. After the first profession, he joined Allamano House Theological Seminary for his studies in Theology from 2006 – 2010 at Tangaza College where he graduated with a degree in Theology. After the studies in Theology Stephen Mutuku was sent to Ouganda, particularly in the mission of Kapeeka for pastoral experience. On 29/010/2010 he did his final vows at Consolata Seminary – Nairobi and the following day he was ordained a deacon at Consolata Shrine Westlands. |
