Sagana is a small town in Kirinyaga District, Central, Kenya. According to Kenya road authority, the distance between Nairobi and Sagana is 80.64 Kilometers. Sagana is a beautiful and green town where you find the majority of people from Kikuyu tribe. Sagana is situated in Murang’s diocese. In this town, Consolata Missionaries embarked on their activity in 1967. During this period, they were only involved in parish activity.
In 1974, they opened the missionary center of formation and spirituality. Then, in 1980 the international novitiate marked the presence of Consolata missionaries in Sagana. Due to the increased number of parishioners, the previous Sagana Catholic Church parish priest, Fr. Molteni Cesare Imc, had the desire to build a new Church. With support of the Imc Kenya region, his parishioners and the local authorities in Sagana, he succeeded to get a piece of land at the main road if someone is coming from Nairobi. Wonderful idea!!! The land was given. Sometime later, Fr. Molteni was transfered to another mission: Tuthu. The current parish priest, Fr. Ndirangu Fredrick Waithaka Imc, included the parishioners, made up their minds to accomplish the above-mentioned project. Fr. Ndirangu is a Kenyan and sharing with him, he sincere told me that he does not have friends from the other parts of the world who can support this project. But he believes in the parishioners. Together with the parishioners, they started what we call ‘Harambee’. This means the free financial contribution from the parishioners depending on the will and financial capacity of each one. With such a financial support, at the moment our Confrere and his parishioners have already covered the new Church compound with concrete. ‘Hungry’ for praying in the new built Church, today 10th of April 2011, the Sagana Catholic Church parish priest and the parishioners organized the ceremony of laying foundation stone. Additionally, they invited their friends, relatives and other people from different parishes for another ‘Harambee’. The ceremony started with the Eucharistic Celebration presided over by His Excellency, the Apostolic Nuncio to Kenya, Archbishop Alain Paul Charles LEBEAUPIN and concelebrated by Frs. Franco Cellana, Fredrick Ndirangu, Molteni Cesare, Garau Felice, Baudena Pietro, Martinelli Gerardo, Jean-Marie Bilwala and the Vicar general of Murang’a diocese. The Imc presence was also noticed by Brothers Patrick Kambale and Blaise Muyanda; included two Conferes of Allamano House theological seminary: Denys and Mugo. Thousands of thousands of people attended the celebration. The Holy Mass began at 10:30 am and finished at 13:18 pm with the laying founding stone. In his homily, the Archbishop congratulated the Consolata Missionaries for their outstanding work in Kenya. Then, he invited all the Catholics to be in communion with the Holy Father, Benedict XVI and lastly recommended them to love of one another as main message of the Lenten period. After the Holy Mass, the parishioners ‘cooled us down’ with sumptuous food, drink and so on…
