I was assigned to do my Pastoral in one of the communities here in Maputo called “Sagrado Coração de Jesus). There I have been working with the youth, Alter Servers, Adolescents and group of catechism. In my experience the Consolata Missionaries are not well known there, even though they have been working there for some time, being touched by this reality, I decided to ask my Novice Master if I could organize an animation day there and he accepted, since also in the same community we are working with the sisters Hospitaleiras we then had collaboration.
The experience of preparing this day was so much challenging and interesting, hard work, late sleep, running up and down. The day fell in the very good day which was the Mission Sunday on the 24th of October. This experience touched my life and since the Holy father in His letter for this day had said it that all the Church is Mission by its nature, we decided to chose the theme of (Luke 10,2) as the symbol of the need of the church.
We heard first and second Mass which was celebrated by the Vocations Director Pe Jose Girllermo and Pe Inacio Saure. During the Mass we presented ourselves as Novices of Consolata which were well dressed in red T-shirts which I prepared especially for this day. We sung the hymn of Allamano. During the time for offertory we brought in front the Picture of our founders and the Globe as the symbol of our internationality. And during the time for prayers of the faithful we prayed in 8 different languages which represented our countries in which we come from.
After the Second Mass which is strictly for the youth, we heard a meeting with them and shared PowerPoint, which talked about the history of our congregation and also talk about our work in the world. We had lot of recreation activities together and entertainment, music, theater, dances and at the end we shared some cakes and drinks.
Indeed the Harvest is great but the works are few, we are in the need of more workers in this vineyard. The experience taught me responsibility and tolerance of difficulties which I confronted. It also taught me the importance of collaboration with the sisters and some members of the community, it was wonderful. The best thing I will never forget is the experience and the care I had when I was with the youth, their patiency, their need for knowing more about Consolata Missionaries and their love they showed for us. Let us pray to the Lord of the Harvest to send more workers in His Harvest, who are willing to spread the good News.
